A relative buries Amira al-Masri, who was killed along with her three siblings and parents

At least 12 Palestinians, including six members of one family, have been killed in three separate Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip, according to local medics.

Video footage showed the family’s apartment on fire overnight in the western al-Sabra neighbourhood of Gaza City.

The brother of Firas al-Masri told the BBC that he had been burnt to death along with his wife, Salsabeel, and their three daughters and son, Faryal, Salma, Amira and Naim.

The Israeli military said its target was a Hamas operative and that it was still looking into the results of the attack.

On Tuesday afternoon, another four people were killed in an Israeli air strike on a home in the al-Samar area of central Gaza City, Palestinian media cited medics as saying.

Two more were killed in an Israeli drone strike on a vehicle in the al-Zahra area to the south of Gaza City, they added.

The Israeli military has not yet commented on those strikes.

According to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry, at least 1,168 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect last October.

কলকাতার জনপ্রিয় অভিনেত্রী মধুমিতা সরকার প্রথমবারের মতো স্বামী দেবমাল্য চক্রবর্তীকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে বাংলাদেশে এসেছেন। আজ শনিবার (১ আগস্ট) সকাল ১০টার দিকে তিনি ঢাকায় পৌঁছান এবং রাজধানীর একটি পাঁচতারকা হোটেলে ওঠেন। মূলত ‘গুলশানের চামেলি’ সিনেমার মহরতের অনুষ্ঠানে অংশ নিতেই তাঁর এই ঢাকা সফর। সিনেমাটির নির্মাতা মো. ইকবাল এই তথ্য নিশ্চিত করে জানান যে আজ সন্ধ্যায় এক জাঁকজমকপূর্ণ অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে সিনেমাটির মহরত অনুষ্ঠিত হবে এবং সংশ্লিষ্ট শিল্পী ও কলাকুশলীদের নাম আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ঘোষণা করা হবে।

এক যৌনকর্মীর জীবনসংগ্রামকে কেন্দ্র করে নির্মিত হচ্ছে ‘গুলশানের চামেলি’। নির্মাতা মো. ইকবাল জানান, আজ শুধু মহরত হলেও সিনেমাটির শুটিং শুরু হবে আগামী নভেম্বর-ডিসেম্বর মাসে এবং কাজ শেষ হওয়ার পর মুক্তির তারিখ জানানো হবে। এই সিনেমায় বাংলাদেশ ও ভারতের দুই দেশের একঝাঁক জনপ্রিয় শিল্পী অভিনয় করবেন। ইতোমধ্যে শিল্পী তালিকায় যুক্ত হয়েছেন ওমর সানী, আমিন খান, আশীষ খন্দকার, কিংবদন্তি অভিনেত্রী রোজিনা এবং একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ চরিত্রে আজমেরী হক বাঁধন। আজকের মহরত অনুষ্ঠানে আরও অনেক শিল্পীর নাম প্রকাশ করা হবে।

ওপার বাংলার ছোট পর্দা দিয়ে অভিনয় জীবন শুরু করে বর্তমানে টলিউডের জনপ্রিয় মুখ হয়ে উঠেছেন মধুমিতা সরকার। ২০১১ সালে ‘বউ কথা কও’ ধারাবাহিক দিয়ে পরিচিতি পাওয়ার পর ‘বোঝে না সে বোঝে না’ সিরিয়ালে ‘পাখি’ চরিত্রে অভিনয় করে দুই বাংলার দর্শকদের মনে জায়গা করে নেন তিনি। ছোট পর্দা থেকে সফলভাবে বড় পর্দায় পা রেখে তিনি ‘লভ আজকাল পরশু’, ‘টেনিদা অ্যান্ড কোম্পানি’, ‘চিনি’ এবং ‘অযোগ্য’ এর মতো আলোচিত সিনেমায় অভিনয় করেছেন। তাঁর সাবলীল অভিনয়শৈলী তাঁকে দুই বাংলার দর্শকদের কাছে সমান জনপ্রিয় করে তুলেছে। স্বামী দেবমাল্য চক্রবর্তীকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে তাঁর এই প্রথম বাংলাদেশ সফর এবং নতুন সিনেমায় তাঁর যুক্ত হওয়া দুই দেশের সাংস্কৃতিক বন্ধনকে আরও সুদৃঢ় করবে।

Any hope Gianni Infantino might have had of tiptoeing away from the scene of his World Cup private-investment wreckage having sustained only minor damage to his reputation disappeared on Saturday.

Uefa – the governing body of European football – went straight for the head of world game, saying it had “lost confidence” in his leadership.

It was one of the most ferocious statements ever aimed at the holder of that position.

Words such as “shabby” and “secret schemes” spoke for themselves.

It came after a dramatic five days for football that sparked memories of the European Super League debacle of 2021.

The ESL was a splinter league formed by 12 of Europe’s biggest clubs, including six from the Premier League.

Former England defender Gary Neville echoed the thoughts of many when he referred to it as “pure greed”. It quickly unravelled.

Infantino’s private-investment plan did not have a catchy title, and lasted two days longer than the ESL.

But despite football’s world governing body confirming the proposal was being withdrawn on Saturday, the infamy will linger much longer.

At the top level, football is a vast, money-making enterprise. The sums players and executives earn is beyond the scope of ‘ordinary’ fans.

But have we discovered there is a line that cannot be crossed?
